海洋学 is a great interdisciplinary major in the Earth Sciences. Our location next to Southern California’s world-famous beaches, and the Scripps Institute of 海洋学, and to the Pacific Fleet make the study of the oceans ideal for San Diegans. We’re talking surfing, sailing, diving, tides, waves, sea water chemistry, beaches and sand management, seafloor spreading, deep sea drilling, underwater volcanoes, coral reefs, and more! Earth is 70% covered by water. Thus, our planet’s key challenges -- past, present, and future -- all center on the oceans. Sea level rise, coral bleaching, international fisheries, underwater resource extraction, El Nino, atmospheric rivers, desalination, and climate change... all start with 海洋学.

We offer a local Associate of Science (AS) degree in 海洋学. This degree can
be earned in 4 semesters if you are a full-time student and prepare you for transfer
to a four-year institution.
