远行学习：新奥尔良

Join the Ethnic Studies Department in January 2026, to the city of New Orleans! Students will register in a closed online Intersession section of either ETHN 107 or HIST 115, but all will be present in New Orleans for the week of Jan. 6-12th!

New Orleans was selected for its intersectional history, including but not limited to: jazz and music history, Black studies, Asian studies, Native studies, race/ethnicity, Irish heritage, diaspora studies, American history, military history, religious studies, food history, civil rights, gender studies.... the list goes on!

This is what you want to know most, right? The trip was planned to be as low-cost as possible. We are estimating that the entire trip would cost students around $1,300 total; this includes round-trip airfare, hotel room (at double occupancy), rideshares from and to the airport in New Orleans, meals for the week (breakfast is free at the hotel), and tickets to excursions. Many of the available excursions are free to the group!

Much of this estimate is based on highest case scenarios for flights and meals, including $450 for roundtrip airfare from SAN to MSY, and $50/day to pay for both lunch and dinner. These fees depend on you, which is why we are only estimating.

NOLA的典型行程

"NOLA" is short for New Orleans! A typical day with us on the trip consists of you enjoying your complimentary hotel breakfast, then meeting with your instructor/faculty facilitator for the excursions that you selected before the trip. You will have time to walk the French Quarter with your classmates to do your solo projects, and then we will debrief as a larger group before we break for dinner. At the end of the week you will produce a final project, more details on that later.
